Our Cattle

At Walker Ranch, raising quality cattle isn’t just a business — it’s a way of life.

How Things Work Around Here

Walker Ranch is a cow-calf operation with a fall-calving herd. Our cows give birth between September and December each year. These hearty girls calve on their own, typically delivering calves that weigh around 70 pounds. We wean the calves between March and June the following year.

After weaning, the heifers are either sold or kept back as replacements. The steers stay on the ranch for a few more months to graze, grow, and are then sold as full-grown yearlings. Occasionally, we also have bulls and cows available for sale.

Every animal at Walker Ranch is expected to survive and thrive in Oklahoma’s tough climate. They graze on fescue and Bermuda pastures year-round. We also bucket-feed to keep them gentle and comfortable around people. (How spoiled are they? Monica hand-feeds them apples and even lets them drink straight from the water hose.)

Because we keep a smaller herd, each animal receives personal, hands-on care. This close attention keeps the herd healthy and content — and allows us to maintain an unmatched level of quality, both in meat and in ethics.

Why We Raise Black Angus

Black Angus cattle are known for producing beef that is tender, juicy, and full of flavor thanks to superior marbling. Their smaller frame is also an advantage, especially in cooler climates, leading to higher percentages of Choice and Prime cuts compared to other breeds.

At Walker Ranch, we believe Black Angus is simply the best for raising top-quality cattle — and putting the best beef on your plate.

Meet the Herd Sires

Walker Ranch is backed by an outstanding lineup of herd sires. We use registered American Angus Association bulls selected for calving ease, growth, and carcass traits. These guys are the backbone of our breeding program.

#127

A ranch favorite! #127 sired all the calves born in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, we had a 100% pregnancy rate and a 100% birth rate — and 75% of the calves were bulls!

#347

The very first bull on Walker Ranch! #347 cleaned up after our embryo transfer program in 2015 and 2016. We even kept a few of his daughters as replacement heifers for our own herd.

Meet the Cow Crew

Our foundation is built on high-quality commercial Black Angus females. These girls work hard — they are expected to breed and raise a strong calf every year, with minimal assistance.

#1123

A farm favorite! She’s been with us since the beginning, and we currently have three of her daughters working in our breeding herd.

#1114

This big gal has also been here from the start. She calves every fall without issue — easy births, low birth weights, strong maternal instincts. One of her daughters is now part of our herd.

#3

Purchased as a bred heifer in 2015, #3 has delivered a bull calf every single fall! She’s a great mother with a fantastic track record.
