We worked cattle yesterday here at Walker Ranch — one of those steady, hands‑on days that keeps the whole herd healthy and sets the tone for the year. We banded our bull calves, checked everyone over, gave vaccines, and put in fly tags. Simple, quiet, necessary work.
While we’re not formally certified through the Oklahoma Quality Beef Network (OQBN), we follow the same Vac‑45 health and management standards because they produce healthier cattle and better beef. These protocols were developed by OSU Extension and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association to improve cattle health, reduce stress, and support high‑quality beef production across the state.
Because our cattle are born, raised, and finished right here on the ranch, we don’t ship or commingle them. That means we don’t use Pasteurella/Haemolytica (shipping fever) vaccines, which are designed for cattle entering the marketing chain, traveling long distances, or mixing with unfamiliar herds. Those risk factors simply don’t exist in our closed, ranch‑raised beef‑share system.
What Yesterday’s Workday Looked Like
Every calf was:
- Checked over head‑to‑tail
- Band‑castrated (bulls/steers)
- Given their respiratory and clostridial vaccines
- Dewormed
- Fly‑tagged for the season
This is the same foundation OQBN requires — minus the shipping‑related vaccine we don’t need.
What This Means for Your Beef Share
Our calves are:
- Born and raised on the ranch
- Castrated and fully healed
- Weaned a minimum of 45 days
- Given two rounds of 5‑way respiratory vaccine
- Given two rounds of 7‑way clostridial (blackleg)
- Dewormed at weaning
- Managed under Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) principles
Healthy calves grow better, handle stress better, and ultimately produce more consistent, higher‑quality beef.
Why It Matters
When you buy a beef share from us, you’re not buying an anonymous animal that’s been hauled through multiple operations. You’re buying a calf that:
- Was born here
- Was raised here
- Was handled calmly
- Was fed well
- Was never shipped or commingled
- Lived a low‑stress life from start to finish
That’s the difference you can taste — and the difference you can feel good about.
If You’re New Here
We offer quarter, half, and whole beef shares, all priced the same per pound. You choose the size that fits your freezer; we handle the rest.
